Ambika Flavel is a Lecturer in Forensic Anthropology at the University of Western Australia (UWA), affiliated with the School of Social Sciences. She leads the Centre for Forensic Anthropology and coordinates popular courses like 'Mysteries of Forensic Science' and 'Archaeology of Death'. Her research focuses on bioarchaeology, forensic archaeology, and the application of CT imaging in anthropological studies.
- PhD in Forensic Anthropology from UWA (Topic: Camposanto: Plague in the Venetian Republic)
Her key research projects include the Camposanto Bioarchaeology Project (Venice plague cemetery studies) and the Saudi Arabian Bioarchaeology Project (UNESCO site analysis at Hegra). She is an Associate Editor of the Australian Journal of Forensic Sciences and a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and Australian and New Zealand Forensic Science Society.
Her recent articles explore forensic identification through skeletal analysis, population affinity via cranial measurements, and historical case studies like the Batavia shipwreck.
