Amber Vennum is an Associate Professor of Couple and Family Therapy in the Department of Applied Human Sciences at Kansas State University. She holds affiliations with the College of Health and Human Sciences and leads the Relevate initiative, a multidisciplinary project enhancing public access to relationship science. Her work focuses on fostering healthy relationships during adolescence and emerging adulthood through trauma-informed interventions in schools and innovative digital tools.
- Education: Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy (Florida State University, 2011), M.A. (University of Houston-Clear Lake, 2007), B.A. (Rice University, 2003).
Her research emphasizes risk/resiliency factors in relationships, systemic approaches to school mental health, and cyclical relationships. She co-leads a federal grant for high-risk adolescent populations and develops adaptive digital platforms like websites and apps to reduce mental health disparities. Dr. Vennum supervises MS/PhD clinical training and teaches courses on family therapy and advanced research methods (e.g., SEM).
Her teams collaborate with school districts (USD 383/475) to improve school climate and student outcomes. She is also involved in certification programs like PREP and Within My Reach, promoting family life education.
