Previously, she served as an Associate Professor at the National Academy of Arts in Bergen, Norway (since 2010), and held visiting roles at MIT, Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), and Brown University. She earned a degree from MIT’s Media Lab under John Maeda, with prior research in interactive software at MIT’s Cognitive Machines Group.
Her research focuses on AI, digital art, and networked cultures, interrogating themes like gender bias in AI, visual culture, and computational aesthetics. Key works include V XXXX (a GAN-informed artist’s book), Ballet Mécanique series, and This is Not a Test, critiquing digital image processing’s cultural biases. She co-directed a cross-disciplinary lecture series at MIT ACT and led RISD’s G-Speak initiative on embodied computation.
Awarded the Jan van Eyck Academie Fellowship (2010), MIT Media Lab Holtzman Fellowship (2006–07), and recognized in exhibitions globally—including the Vancouver Art Gallery’s The Imitation Game—her work explores the intersection of art, technology, and social critique. Current projects include Reading Charisma, funded by SSHRC, analyzing AI’s charismatic influence through transdisciplinary collaboration.
