Amber Asghar

Amber Asghar, DCLS, MHA, MLS(ASCP)^cm is an Assistant Professor of Instruction and Director of Clinical Education for the Doctorate in Clinical Laboratory Science (DCLS) program at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), housed in the School of Health Professions, Department of Clinical Laboratory Science. With 20 years of bench-to-managerial experience in clinical microbiology, she brings extensive practical insight to her academic role.

Research & Teaching Focus

Dr. Asghar’s research centers on the education of future clinical laboratory scientists and other health professionals. Her methodological interests span microbiology, virology, immunology, serology, hematopathology, and toxicology. She is particularly engaged in topics surrounding pandemic response, global health initiatives, diagnostic management teams, and evidence-based laboratory medicine. She teaches both on-campus and online courses to graduate and doctoral CLS students, emphasizing practical application and patient-centered care.

Professional Leadership & Clinical Impact

Beyond academia, Dr. Asghar has served as Supervisor/Manager of the Microbiology departments at Harris Health System and Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, and as a bench technologist in the Microbiology division at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center. These roles have honed her expertise in workflow optimization, quality assurance, and laboratory leadership, all of which she integrates into her teaching and program direction.
