Dr. Amanda van Loon is an Assistant Professor at Utrecht University’s Department of Clinical Child and Family Studies, part of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. Her research focuses on adolescent development, school-based interventions for stress reduction, and resilience-building strategies. She completed a bachelor’s in Psychobiology and a research master’s in Cognitive Neurobiology and Clinical Neurophysiology at the University of Amsterdam, followed by a PhD in Clinical Child and Family Studies at Utrecht University (2022).
Her expertise includes intervention design, school effectiveness, and child/adolescent well-being. Current projects include evaluating the SterkWerk program (targeting prosocial behavior in classrooms) and the Stress Less Project (reducing school-related stress). She teaches the Juvenile Delinquency minor and supervises student theses.
Key research themes are resilience in youth and the Dynamics of Youth (DoY) initiative. Awards include the CAS Honorable Mention (2022) and a 2024 grant for youth probation research. Her work spans 13+ peer-reviewed articles, emphasizing school interventions, pandemic mental health, and physiological stress responses.
Collaborations involve institutions like the University of Amsterdam and EU-funded projects. She actively presents at conferences such as the European Association for Research on Adolescence and the Stockholm Criminology Symposium.
