Amanda Wood is a Professor and Director of the Aston Neuroscience Institute at Aston University. She holds an honorary professorship in the School of Psychology and is affiliated with the Aston Institute of Health & Neurodevelopment. Her research focuses on the consequences of early-life brain injury on child neurodevelopment, combining cutting-edge brain imaging techniques with neuropsychological studies. Key areas include MRI biomarkers for risk stratification, mechanisms of neurodevelopmental outcomes from prenatal anticonvulsant exposure, and presurgical mapping for pediatric epilepsy. She collaborates on aging studies, including effects of androgen deprivation therapy on brain function and diabetes-related cognitive risks.
Education: BSc (Hons) in 1994, PhD in 2001, and MPsych (Clinical Neuropsychology) in 2005, all from The University of Melbourne, Australia.
Research interests span pediatric neurodevelopment, neuroimaging, and clinical neuropsychology. Notable projects include the PROBIt study (ERC-funded) and collaborations on prostate cancer brain effects and diabetes-cognition links. Her work emphasizes translational research impacting clinical care and policy.
