Amanda Woerman

Amanda Woerman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her research focuses on neurodegeneration and protein misfolding mechanisms in diseases such as multiple system atrophy, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and frontotemporal dementias.

Her work investigates how proteins like alpha-synuclein and tau adopt abnormal beta-sheet rich conformations that self-template and spread through the brain, mirroring prion disease pathology.
