Amanda Stronza is a Professor in the Department of Ecology and Conservation Biology at Texas A&M University, and co-founder of the Applied Biodiversity Science Program. Her work focuses on human-wildlife interactions, community-based conservation, and sustainable development. She holds a PhD in Anthropology (Tropical Conservation and Development) from the University of Florida, alongside degrees in International Affairs and Latin American Studies.
Her research spans the Amazon Basin and Okavango Delta, emphasizing Indigenous knowledge and collaborative conservation strategies. Notable initiatives include co-founding Ecoexist to address human-elephant coexistence in Botswana. She has secured grants from NSF and private foundations, leading projects on predator-human interactions in the Kalahari and macaque studies in Nepal.
Stronza’s 30-year career includes photography for Getty Images and publications in prominent media outlets. Her work bridges anthropology and ecology, with a focus on equitable partnerships between communities and conservation efforts.
