Amanda Sladek is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK), within the College of Fine Arts and Humanities. She serves as an editor for special issues in academic journals and teaches courses ranging from first-year composition to advanced rhetoric theory. Her research focuses on antiracism, linguistic justice, and innovative pedagogical strategies in writing instruction.
Dr. Sladek holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Kansas (2016) and a B.A. in English and Psychology from Midland University (2011). Her scholarship bridges writing studies, literacy theory, and sociolinguistics, with recent work addressing gendered language in academic discourse and digital tools for teaching language variation.
Her courses include ENG100A (English for Academic Purposes), ENG303 (Introduction to Linguistics), and specialized topics such as 'Rural Literacies' and 'Writing Instruction and Multiple Literacies.' She has contributed to pedagogical resources like NCTE's Dynamic Activities for First-Year Composition and co-edited a special issue on writing studies and historical English language studies.
Publications highlight her commitment to inclusive education, including studies on translingual grammar pedagogy and autoethnographic methods to combat linguistic prejudice. Her work has appeared in Composition Studies, Across the Disciplines, and Teaching Language Variation.
