Amanda Sargent serves as an Assistant Professor at the Fones School of Dental Hygiene within the College of Health Sciences at the University of Bridgeport, where she has taught since joining the faculty in 2021. She holds a Master of Science in Dental Hygiene (MSDH) from the University of Bridgeport and completed her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene online in 2016.

Dr. Sargent's research focuses on pediatric dental care for children with special needs, geriatric dentistry for dementia and Alzheimer's patients, and the oral-systemic health connection with particular emphasis on identifying Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) through dental hygiene practice. Her work promotes holistic preventative approaches where dental hygienists serve as frontline health detectors.
She maintains active clinical practice with part-time Saturday appointments at a local dental office, bridging academic theory with real-world patient care. Her professional philosophy centers on dental hygienists as essential preventative practitioners in comprehensive healthcare delivery.
