معرفی
Amanda Petford-Long is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University and an Argonne Distinguished Fellow at Argonne National Laboratory. Her research focuses on understanding magnetic, ferroelectric, and multiferroic oxide nanostructures, particularly the role of interfaces in controlling their behavior. She employs advanced microscopy techniques such as Lorentz microscopy and atom probe tomography to correlate microstructure with magnetic and transport properties.
- Education: D.Phil., University of Oxford (UK); B.Sc. Physics, University College London (UK)
- Affiliations: Materials Science Division (Argonne National Lab), Department of Materials Science and Engineering (Northwestern)
Her research interests include in-situ TEM techniques, nanoscale magnetic structures, and optical nanocomposites for energy applications. She develops 3D microscopy methods to visualize magnetic domains and ferroelectric textures. Notable contributions include studies on topological spin textures, skyrmion control, and magnetic monopole defects in artificial spin ices.
- Awards: Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering (2005), American Physical Society (2008), Argonne Distinguished Fellow (2010), Royal Microscopical Society (2017)
Her group collaborates on grants involving nanomaterials for information storage and energy systems. She leads the Argonne Nanoscale Magnetic & Electronic Heterostructures Group and actively mentors students/postdocs in microscopy and materials innovation.
