Dr. Amanda Paulovich is a Professor at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in the Translational Science and Therapeutics Division and holds a concurrent professorship at the University of Washington School of Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology. She serves as Director of the Clinical Research Proteomics Platform at the Brotman Baty Institute for Precision Medicine and is a Member of the Immunotherapy Integrated Research Center at Fred Hutch, holding the prestigious Aven Foundation Endowed Chair.
Dr. Paulovich's educational background includes:
- MD from University of Washington (1998)
- PhD in Genetics from University of Washington (1996)
- BS in Biological Sciences from Carnegie Mellon University (1988)
- Residency in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (2000)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational Biology at MIT-Whitehead Center for Genomic Research (2003)
- Fellowship in Medical Oncology at Dana Farber Cancer Institute (2004)
As a leader in proteomics, Dr. Paulovich's research addresses the critical gap between genomics and proteomics, developing multiple reaction monitoring mass spectrometry (MRM-MS) technology to detect and precisely measure proteins. Her work over 17 years has focused on overcoming the major impediment in biomedical research: the lack of validated tools for quantifying human proteins. Her lab pioneered immuno-MRM, recognized as "Method of the Year" by Nature Methods, and is now developing multiplex assays for studying cell signaling networks with a focus on DNA damage response.
Dr. Paulovich's recent publications demonstrate her leadership in applying proteomics to cancer diagnostics and personalized treatment, spanning ovarian cancer diagnostics, immunomodulatory protein quantification, and multi-omics integration. These works reflect her commitment to translating proteomic technologies into clinical applications that enable precision medicine approaches for individual cancer patients.
Scientific recognition includes:
- Aven Foundation Endowed Chair
As Director of the Clinical Research Proteomics Platform, Dr. Paulovich leads efforts to translate proteomic discoveries into clinical applications. Her Paulovich Laboratory is a multidisciplinary team focused on improving patient care through reliable protein quantification in a CLIA environment. She envisions creating international public-private partnerships to develop immuno-MRM assays for all human proteins and make them publicly available, which would fundamentally transform biomedical research and patient care by enabling truly personalized medicine within the next decade or two.
