Professor Amanda Page is a Grant-Funded Researcher (E) in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Adelaide. Her research focuses on vagal afferent signaling in the gut, particularly its role in obesity, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, and functional dyspepsia. She investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying gastric satiety signaling, circadian rhythmicity of food intake, and the impact of high-fat diets and chronic stress on vagal function.
Her work integrates molecular techniques (PCR, Western blot), electrophysiology, and mouse models (HFD-induced obesity, chronic stress) to explore how vagal afferents regulate energy homeostasis. Key contributions include identifying TRPV1 channel disruption in obesity and developing drug targets via GABAB receptor agonists. Current projects address pregnancy adaptations, leptin signaling plasticity, and endocannabinoid interactions.
Research highlights include 5 patents from drug development programs and validation of G-protein coupled receptors as therapeutic targets. Her team collaborates internationally, with translational focus on dietary interventions and pharmacotherapies for metabolic disorders.
