Amanda Morton serves as Assistant Professor of Music Direction in the Theatre and Dance Performance department at Ithaca College's School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. An award-winning music director, writer, and educator, she maintains an active career bridging academic work with professional theatre productions on Broadway and at prominent regional institutions including Wilma Theater, Paper Mill Playhouse, and Goodspeed Musicals.
Her creative research centers on musical theatre innovation, with specialized focus on developing original works that explore cultural identity through satire and musical comedy. Recent projects investigate Korean American experiences in contemporary performance, blending autobiographical narrative with theatrical experimentation to address themes of adoption, identity formation, and cross-cultural expression.
Dr. Morton's recognition includes:
- 2023 Pew Grant for Contemporary Expressions of Culture & Identity
- Three Barrymore Awards for Outstanding Musical Direction
- Multiple Broadway and regional theatre credits spanning new work development and classic revivals
Current projects include serving as music director for the Broadway adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians and music supervisor for Anne of Green Gables, alongside developing her original musical Wishing To Grow Up Brightly which examines Korean American identity through satirical musical comedy and is scheduled for Fall 2025 production at Theatre Horizon.
