Amanda J. Zellmer serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Occidental College, appointed in 2012. Her research integrates computational methodologies with ecological and evolutionary studies to advance conservation biology, maintaining an active laboratory in Bioscience 300 with contact via zellmer@oxy.edu.
Education:
- B.S., University of Wisconsin
- Ph.D., University of Michigan
Her research program centers on developing computational approaches for spatial ecological and evolutionary processes, employing Machine Learning techniques including Species Distribution Modeling, Least-Cost Path/Resistance Modeling, and Multivariate Analyses. She combines genomic sequencing, field observations, and experimental data to investigate landscape genetics and phylogeography, primarily using amphibians as model systems while extending to carnivorous pitcher plants, rocky reef organisms, birds, and humans. This work delivers critical insights for biodiversity conservation in fragmented habitats.
Within the Department of Biology, Dr. Zellmer directs an interdisciplinary research environment where students engage with cutting-edge computational tools to address real-world ecological challenges, fostering expertise at the intersection of computer science and biological fieldwork.
