Amanda Hoffman-Hall

Dr. Amanda Hoffman-Hall is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies at Eckerd College. Her research focuses on environmental health and justice, spatial epidemiology, and remote sensing applications for land cover mapping. She holds a Ph.D. in Geographical Sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park and a B.S. in Geography from the University of Oklahoma.

Her work emphasizes collaborative, community-engaged approaches to solving health and environmental challenges. Key research areas include malaria transmission dynamics in Myanmar, wildfire patterns in boreal forests, and land-use impacts on public health. She has developed geospatial tools for mapping marginalized rural populations and disease risk zones.

Dr. Hoffman-Hall's interdisciplinary projects combine satellite data with field surveys to address issues like deforestation-linked malaria exposure and climate change impacts. She teaches courses in Environmental Health, GIS, and Remote Sensing, advocating for equitable science practices. Her work has been supported by datasets including the Arctic Boreal Burned Area (ABBA) product and Myanmar land cover maps.

Notable contributions include co-authoring a GeoHealth policy paper on environmental justice advocacy and advancing methods for detecting rural settlements through Landsat imagery. She collaborates internationally with organizations like the ORNL DAAC and public health agencies in Myanmar.
