Dr. Amanda Hiner is Chair of the English Department and Professor of English at Winthrop University, where she serves as Coordinator of Critical Reading, Thinking, and Writing. She holds a Ph.D. in 18th-Century British Literature from Washington University in St. Louis, an M.A. in British and American Literature from Washington University, and a B.A. in English (Honors) from Oglethorpe University.
Her research focuses on 18th-Century British Literature, Early Modern British Literature, Critical Thinking pedagogy, and British Women Writers. She has published extensively on women's educational theorists, print culture, and political satire in works by authors like Eliza Haywood and Jonathan Swift.
Dr. Hiner's 2022 book with Cambridge University Press examines British women satirists. She also develops curricula and trains faculty in critical thinking applications.
