Amanda Hernandez is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Southwestern University, where she focuses on gender, feminism, and religion within U.S. Christian contexts. Her work interrogates the intersections of whiteness, race and ethnicity, and popular culture through both qualitative and quantitative research.

Her research explores White supremacy, sexism in Christian groups, and popular culture’s role in feminism, including music and social media. Recent publications include a 2024 book on intersectional identities and a 2025 article analyzing thematic hires in Texas academia.
In 2024, she soft-launched the podcast But Is It Feminist? and was featured on the Classical Ideas podcast. She was selected for the Sacred Writes Spring 2025 Carpenter Cohort, enhancing public scholarship on religion, gender, and sexuality. Collaborative projects with students, such as analyzing White femininity on TikTok, underscore her commitment to intersectional pedagogy and undergraduate mentorship.
