Dr. Amanda Gilchrist is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Cottey College. She holds a B.S. from Florida State University and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Missouri, specializing in Cognition and Neuroscience. Her teaching portfolio includes Cognitive Psychology, Research Methods, and Biopsychology. In Spring 2022, she undertook a sabbatical to study EEG-based brain activity measurement, which she aims to integrate into classroom instruction and student research in the Psychology Lab. She actively participates in professional organizations like the Psychonomic Society and National Institute on Teaching in Psychology (NITOP).
Her research focuses on cognitive processes, particularly working memory, attention allocation, and developmental neuroscience. Recent work explores age-related differences in memory performance and methodological advancements in chunking theory. She has contributed to over a dozen peer-reviewed publications since 2007, with notable work on dual-task attention dynamics and cognitive aging.
Dr. Gilchrist has held significant administrative roles, including Faculty Chair (2022–2024) and Chair of the Assessment Committee (2018–2021). Her professional activities emphasize both scholarly excellence and pedagogical innovation in higher education.
