معرفی
Amanda Brandow, DO, is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin, with secondary appointments in the Center for Microbiome Research and Neuroscience Research Center. She serves as an attending physician at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and holds leadership roles as Associate Fellowship Program Director for Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
Her research focuses on sickle cell disease pathophysiology, particularly pain mechanisms and management strategies. Key interests include:
- Neuropathic pain pathways and sensitization
- Biomarkers of chronic pain
- Hydroxyurea therapy optimization
- Quantitative sensory testing
- COVID-19 impacts on sickle cell patients
- Multidisciplinary care models
Analysis of her recent publications reveals strong emphasis on translational approaches bridging clinical observations with basic science mechanisms, particularly in pain neuroscience. Her work consistently explores novel therapeutic targets, patient-reported outcomes, and healthcare delivery improvements for sickle cell disease.
Awards and honors include:
- NIH Loan Repayment Program awards (5 renewals)
- American Society of Hematology Junior Faculty Scholar Award
- Top-Rated Doctor recognition (M Magazine)
- Pediatric Fellow Clinical Research Award
- Sigma Sigma Phi Honor Society
Dr. Brandow actively mentors trainees through the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship program and has supervised students including Nicholas Tadeo, Emily Roth, and Matthew Ehrhardt. Her NIH-funded laboratory investigates peripheral and central sensitization mechanisms in sickle cell pain. Current projects examine gut microbiome interactions with chronic pain and iPSC-derived neuron models.
