Amanda Bertana is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Tulane University and a research fellow at the Australian Centre, University of Melbourne. Her research focuses on the human dimensions of global environmental change, particularly climate adaptation challenges in Pacific Island communities. She investigates how colonial legacies, power dynamics, and governance frameworks shape community resiliency in the face of climate-induced displacement. Her book manuscript, Losing Ground, examines Fiji’s relocation policies through a historical and sociopolitical lens.
Dr. Bertana’s work bridges environmental sociology with development studies, emphasizing structural barriers to effective adaptation. She explores themes such as gender equity in climate initiatives, faith-based narratives influencing adaptation strategies, and the intersection of environmental and social justice. Her research has been published in journals like Climate and Development, Environmental Sociology, and Anthropological Forum.
Her interdisciplinary approach addresses contemporary challenges in climate policy, energy transitions, and just sustainability frameworks, contributing to global debates on equitable climate action.
