Amanda Beattie is a Senior Lecturer in Politics, History and International Relations at Aston University, affiliated with the Society and Politics School and the Aston Centre for Europe (ACE). Her research intersects political theory with international relations, focusing on deportation regimes, institutional design, and narrative methodologies. She holds degrees from McGill University, the University of St. Andrews, and Aston University, including a PhD in International Relations (2008).
Her research employs autoethnography and reflexive practices to explore moral dilemmas in forced displacement, emphasizing aesthetic and emotional encounters in global politics. Teaching includes Political Philosophy, Contemporary Theory, and Ethics in International Relations. Recent publications address refugee housing, youth agency, and solidarity through collective emotions. She has contributed to policy debates on migration via editorial roles and conferences, including co-convening the Emotions Working Group for the British International Studies Association (2018–2021). Her work highlights the intersection of personal experience and systemic structures, advocating for marginalized voices in international discourses.
