Dr. Amama Shaukat is an Associate Professor (Honorary Reader) in Accounting and Finance at Brunel Business School, Brunel University London, within the Department of Economics and Finance, College of Business, Arts and Social Sciences. She leads the postgraduate module MG5612 'Financial Accounting' and co-teaches 'Corporate Reporting' at the undergraduate level, while also supervising MSc and PhD students. Her research is interdisciplinary, impactful, and policy-relevant, particularly in corporate governance, sustainability reporting, and the informal sector.

Her research spans corporate governance, board effectiveness, CSR, environmental and social disclosures, stakeholder engagement, and the informal domestic work sector. She practices research-led teaching and investigates how sustainability reporting influences firm performance and risk. Her 2014 paper in British Accounting Review is among the most cited in the journal’s history. She is currently contributing to the development of European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) as a member of EFRAG’s Digital Reporting Community and Sector Working Groups for Oil & Gas, Textiles, and Food & Beverages.
Her recent publications reflect a strong trend in environmental governance, board-level worker representation, higher education policy, and ESG integration. These works combine theoretical innovation—such as the proposed Natural Environment Agency Theory—with practical policy applications, especially in just transitions and decarbonization in global supply chains.
Dr. Shaukat has received several honors, including:

She actively mentors PhD students and has supervised several to completion, including Omar Albasteki, Fatema Al-Rawahi, Elham Ahmed, and Yan Qiu. She has served on editorial boards of premier journals such as British Accounting Review, Journal of Business Ethics, and Accounting Forum, and has reviewed for over a dozen leading journals. She has contributed to policy consultations for the UK Parliament, Financial Reporting Council, IFRS, and EFRAG. She leads a British Academy-funded project on just transition in Pakistan’s textile sector and previously led a comparative study on sustainability reporting in Malaysia and the UK.
Dr. Shaukat is a member of the Accounting and Auditing Research Group (AARG) at Brunel and collaborates with scholars across the UK and internationally. Her work bridges academic research, policy development, and pedagogical innovation, positioning her as a leading voice in sustainable and equitable corporate governance.
