Amalie Nilsen is a Doctoral Research Fellow (Research Fellow) in the Department of Political Science at the University of Oslo, affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Comparative Institutions and Regimes (CIR) research group. She has held this salaried academic position since 2022 while pursuing her PhD.
Her educational background includes a Master's in Political Science (2019-2021) and Bachelor's in Development Studies (2016-2019), both from the University of Oslo, with an exchange term at City University of Hong Kong in 2018. Prior to her PhD, she served as a Research Assistant at PRIO (2021-2022).
Nilsen's research examines democratization processes, mass mobilization dynamics, and public opinion formation in comparative political contexts, with specific focus on autocracies and protest movements. Her methodological approach integrates quantitative analysis of political behavior within authoritarian and transitional regimes.
She teaches undergraduate courses STV1020 and STV2350, alongside graduate seminars STV4021 and STV4022, covering political science methodologies and advanced comparative politics topics. Her office is located at Eilert Sundt's House, 7th floor, Moltke Moes vei 31, Oslo.
