Dr. Amaleena Damle is Associate Professor and Deputy Director of Research at Durham University's School of Modern Languages and Cultures. She holds a PhD from King's College Cambridge and previously taught at Oxford, Queen Mary University of London, and Cambridge. Fellow of the Institute for Medical Humanities.
Research examines embodiment, gender, and cultural representation in contemporary French/francophone literature. Current book projects include: 1) Eating the Other: Ananda Devi and the Politics of Consumption analyzing colonial legacies in food practices, and 2) Narratives of childbirth exploring medical/cultural discourses.
Publications demonstrate sustained engagement with feminist and postcolonial perspectives on bodily experience. Literary analysis frequently incorporates philosophical frameworks including Deleuzian theory.
Advising: Supervises PhD candidates in French philosophy, women's writing, and decolonial theory. Accepting new students.
