Alyssa Fenuta is an Assistant Professor in the School of Human Kinetics at Trinity Western University (TWU), where she has been a faculty member since 2020. She holds a PhD in Kinesiology from Queen’s University (2024), an MSc from McMaster University (2013), and a HBSc in Kinesiology with a Psychology minor (2011). Her research focuses on exercise physiology, adapted physical activity, and holistic health promotion, particularly for individuals with disabilities or chronic conditions. She has contributed to developing the Certificate in Disability and Physical Activity (DIPA) at Queen’s University and collaborates with Exercise is Medicine to educate healthcare professionals on integrating physical activity into patient care.

Her research interests include the physiological effects of nitrate supplementation (e.g., beetroot juice) on exercise performance, the design of accessible exercise programs for spinal cord injury patients, and sleep behaviors in varsity athletes. She emphasizes evidence-based, person-centered care and has pioneered initiatives to enhance healthcare professionals’ understanding of exercise as medicine across lifespans.
Teaching: Courses include Anatomy & Physiology I/II, Psychology of Sport, and Adapted Physical Activity. She previously taught courses on human flourishing, social determinants of health, and clinical exercise physiology.
