University of Washingtonمعرفی
Alys Weinbaum is an Associate Professor in the Department of Comparative History of Ideas at the University of Washington. Her work bridges literature, cultural studies, and critical theory, focusing on themes such as racial formation, biopolitics, and human reproduction in trans-Atlantic contexts.
Her research explores the intersections of race, capitalism, and biotechnology, particularly in her current book project, The Afterlife of Slavery: Human Reproduction in Biocapitalism, which examines contemporary reproductive politics through a lens of historical and economic critique. A companion to her first book, Wayward Reproductions: Genealogies of Race and Nation in Transatlantic Modern Thought, this work analyzes how biocapitalism and neoliberalism shape modern understandings of reproduction.
She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on critical race theory, Marxist theory, feminist theory, and modern literature. Her courses emphasize close textual analysis and the relationship between aesthetics and political discourse.
Dr. Weinbaum’s office is located in Padelford Hall (PDL B408), and she can be reached at alysw@uw.edu.
