Alys George is an Assistant Professor of German Studies at Stanford University, specializing in 19th- to 21st-century German and Austrian literature, cultural history, and visual culture. Her work intersects with the medical humanities, film, photography, modern dance, and print culture.

Her research focuses on modernism and the postwar period, emphasizing the history of women in interwar Vienna, Central European modernist literatures, and the Austrian occupation (1945–1955). She has contributed to feminist studies, film criticism, and Germanic cultural studies.
George’s notable publication, The Naked Truth (2020), examines Viennese modernism through bodily representation, earning prestigious awards. Her work also includes an annotated edition of letters between Hugo von Hofmannsthal and The Dial, and co-editorship of a special issue on medicalized bodies in German-speaking contexts.
