Professor Aly Salama is Chair of Accounting and Corporate Governance at Northumbria University’s Newcastle Business School, serving as Faculty Director of Accreditation and Head of the Accounting Subject Group. With over 30 years of academic experience, he holds a PhD from the University of Nottingham, focusing on environmental disclosure and financial performance. His research spans Social and Environmental Accounting, corporate governance, banking, and historical accounting practices. He has secured significant grants, including a £29,656 UK-Egypt Climate Change Partnership Grant (2022) and an ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship (£27,351, 2003).
Professor Salama has supervised over 30 PhD students, many of whom have won academic awards. His research appears in top journals like Abacus, Journal of Business Ethics, and Journal of Accounting and Public Policy. He has held visiting roles at the University of Glasgow and York, and serves as an external examiner for multiple UK universities. Beyond academia, he advises on curriculum development and has contributed to policy reforms in Egypt and the MENA region.
His work integrates governance structures, environmental disclosures, and financial performance, with recent studies exploring board composition in GCC countries and the impact of former CEOs on corporate social investments.
