Alvin Weii Su, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Pediatrics at Sidney Kimmel Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University, and an adjunct professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Delaware. His clinical expertise focuses on pediatric sports medicine, including ACL reconstruction, cartilage repair, and hip/knee arthroscopy. He also serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of POSNA and AOSSM, and actively participates in orthopaedic research societies.
Education: MD from National Yang-Ming University (2004), PhD in Materials Science & Engineering from UC San Diego (2014), residency at Taipei Veteran's General Hospital (2010), and fellowships at the University of Connecticut and Washington University in St. Louis.
Research: Dr. Su’s work spans translational biomechanics, cartilage regeneration, and medical economics modeling. Key areas include articular cartilage repair, orthopaedic biomaterials, and martial arts injury analysis, supported by NIH, AOSSM, and POSNA grants.
Recognition: Awards include the 2023 Steven P. Arnoczky Young Investigator Award and 2022 Best Team Award. He is a 2025 AOSSM Traveling Fellow and recipient of the 2020 Press Ganey Excellence in Patient Care Award.
Clinical Focus: Prioritizing non-surgical approaches, his practice emphasizes sports injury prevention and pediatric fracture care across Nemours Children’s Health locations in Delaware and New Jersey.
