He also directs the Biomathematics Graduate Program, fostering interdisciplinary research at the mathematics-biology interface.
Education:
- DPhil, University of Oxford (1996)
- Mathematics, Trinity College, Cambridge
Lloyd specializes in mathematical biology with primary focus on infectious disease epidemiology, particularly mosquito-borne pathogens. His methodological expertise spans dynamical systems, stochastic processes, and ecological modeling to analyze transmission dynamics and intervention strategies. His work bridges theoretical mathematics with public health applications through computational and analytical approaches.
Scientific Awards:
- Alumni Association Distinguished Graduate Professor award (2018)
- Outstanding Teacher Award (2022)
- Medical Research Council Non-Clinical Fellowship
As a dedicated mentor, Lloyd has guided graduate students including Michael Vella (gene drive reversal research) and Brandon Hollingsworth ("divorce effect" modeling). His leadership in graduate education earned the Distinguished Graduate Professor award, recognizing his role in developing NC State's biomathematics community and supporting student achievements.
Lloyd leads the Biomathematics Graduate Program and contributes to the Mathematical Biology research group, maintaining active collaborations across biological sciences while advancing quantitative approaches to disease modeling.
