Alua Arthur is a death doula, recovering attorney, and founder of Going with Grace, an organization dedicated to transforming end-of-life experiences. She holds an adjunct professor position (institution unspecified) while primarily focusing on her death doula practice and organizational leadership.
Her work centers on helping individuals answer the fundamental question: 'What must I do to be at peace with myself so that I may live presently and die gracefully?' Arthur approaches death as a natural process that the body inherently knows how to navigate, challenging Western culture's discomfort with liminal spaces between life stages. She views life itself as a creative process with death serving as the ultimate deadline, allowing continuous refinement until that point.
Arthur has been featured in major publications including LA Times, Vogue, and InStyle, and was a keynote speaker at EndWell 2019. Her philosophy emphasizes divorcing self-worth from productivity and embracing the transformative power of grief in the creative process. While she maintains an academic connection as an adjunct professor, her primary contributions are through practical application in death work rather than traditional academic research.
Her organization, Going with Grace, serves clients worldwide through online education, virtual consultations, and travel, creating comprehensive end-of-life plans that reflect each individual's unique human experience. Arthur also serves on the Board of Directors for PAUSE and previously served on boards for the End of Life Doula Council of NHPCO and the National End-of-Life Doula Alliance.
