Alpesh Maisuria is a Professor of Education Policy in Critical Education at the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol. His work critiques how education policies reproduce inequality through a Marxist and Critical Realist lens. He holds a BA, MA (distinction), and PhD from UCL, and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
His research focuses on education policy, sociology of education, Marxist theory, and parliamentary studies. Specific interests include public education, marketization, academic working conditions, and neoliberal reforms. He co-edited Working with Critical Realism (2023), nominated for the Cheryl Frank Memorial Prize, and the Encyclopedia of Marxism and Education (2022).
As a Parliamentary Academic Fellow in the House of Commons, he aids MPs in scrutinizing education policies. He chairs the Journal for Critical Education Policy Studies and organizes the International Conferences on Critical Education (ICCE). Recent publications analyze school inspections, teacher retention, and curriculum comparisons across the UK.
His research highlights systemic inequalities, advocating for alternatives to neoliberal education models. Current doctoral advisees explore topics like decolonization in schools, academic identities, and library support for marginalized children.
