Alondra Nelson is the Harold F. Linder Chair in the School of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) in Princeton. She concurrently serves as a Visiting Professor at Princeton University. Previously, she was a Professor of Sociology at Columbia University and the university's first Dean of Social Science. She currently leads the Social Science Research Council as its President.
Her work focuses on the intersections of science, technology, race, and social inequality. Notable contributions include her books The Social Life of DNA: Race, Reparations, and Reconciliation after the Genome and Body and Soul: The Black Panther Party and the Fight Against Medical Discrimination.
Her research explores how genetic technologies shape understandings of race, medical justice movements, and sociohistorical contexts of scientific practice. She advises on science policy and equity issues globally.
