Dr. Almila Uzel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Yeditepe University's Faculty of Engineering. With over a decade of academic experience, she specializes in structural engineering, focusing on shear behavior in concrete systems and sustainable construction practices.
- PhD in Civil Engineering, University of Toronto (2003)
- MSc in Structural Engineering, Istanbul Technical University (1999)
- BSc in Civil Engineering, Istanbul Technical University (1989-1999)
Her research spans concrete shear mechanics, foundation design, and seismic resilience. Key contributions include improving shear design methods for large footings and developing sustainable solutions for post-tensioned concrete systems. She has collaborated internationally with institutions like the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and fib International Federation for Structural Concrete.
Recent publications highlight advancements in shear enhancement models, post-tensioned transfer girders, and Turkish standard compliance. These works intersect structural safety, foundation engineering, and sustainable design principles.
- Member of fib (International Federation for Structural Concrete) since 2013
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario (2014)
- Deputy Department Head at Yeditepe University (2013-2017)
- Erasmus Coordinator at Yeditepe University (2017)
She has supervised theses on topics such as shear strength of non-slender members, economic comparisons of prestressed concrete, and sustainable solar power plant designs. Her professional experience includes roles at Halcrow Yolles (2006) and Read Jones Christoffersen (2011).
