Allyson Sanderson is a Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing at Teesside University's School of Health & Life Sciences, with a focus on clinical optometry and interdisciplinary healthcare education. She leads the BSc (Hons) Clinical Optometry course and mentors students in pre/post-registration programs. Her roles include module leadership for MSc Nursing Dissertation and paramedic advanced clinical skills training.
Education qualifications span nursing degrees from Newcastle-upon-Tyne School of Nursing (1987-1990) up to a MA Advancing Practice (2001-2005), with certifications in emergency care, prescribing, and clinical teaching. She holds a Professional Doctorate (DrPP) commenced in 2019.
Research interests center on visual impairment's impact on patient outcomes, falls risk mitigation in elderly populations, and healthcare staff training methodologies. She co-authored the ophthalmic chapter in Alexander's Nursing Practice (2003/2011 editions) and published widely on patient-centered care and clinical skills.
She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2012). Her professional roles include academic mentorship, personal tutoring, and contributions to the Polam Hall School Academy as a school councillor.
