Associate Professor Allyson Mutch researches health equity and social determinants of health at the University of Queensland's School of Public Health. Her work employs qualitative methodologies to examine health experiences of marginalized populations, with particular focus on HIV care, gender-diverse youth, and child protection issues.
Her research program investigates how social exclusion impacts health service access and health outcomes. Recent projects have examined peer navigation systems for people living with HIV, healthcare barriers for transgender youth, and family support structures for children at risk of maltreatment.
Methodologically, she specializes in community-engaged qualitative designs and arts-based research approaches. Her work maintains strong partnerships with community organizations to ensure research addresses priority needs of disadvantaged groups.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on health promotion, qualitative methods, and systems thinking approaches to public health challenges.
