Allyson E. Shea is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. Her research focuses on host-pathogen interactions during urinary tract infections (UTI), particularly with uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC).
She earned her Baccalaureate Degrees in Biological Sciences and Marine Science from the University of South Carolina, followed by a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Florida. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan under Dr. Harry Mobley, studying UPEC nutrient systems during UTI.
- Research: Bacterial pathogenesis mechanisms, host nutrient release during infection, and UPEC virulence factors.
- Education: B.S. in Biological Sciences & Marine Science (University of South Carolina), Ph.D. in Molecular Biology (University of Florida), Postdoc at University of Michigan.
- Publications: 11 recent articles on UTI pathogenesis, transposon libraries, and bacterial metabolism (2018-2024).
