Dr. Allison Speicher is a Professor of English at Eastern Connecticut State University, specializing in 19th-century American literature, children’s literature, and representations of aging. She holds a Ph.D. in 19th-century American literature and has taught at Eastern since 2014. Her research explores the intersections of literature, education, and social history, highlighted by her award-winning book Schooling Readers, which examines how fiction shaped public schooling. She is co-editor of the Country School Journal and secretary of the Harriet Beecher Stowe Society. Recognized for her mentorship, she received the 2023 Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Mentor Award.
Her upcoming book Fictions of Age analyzes age consciousness in 19th-century American literature. She teaches courses in American literature, children’s literature, and women’s and gender studies, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches. Dr. Speicher’s work bridges literary analysis with pedagogical practice, reflecting her commitment to liberal arts education and teacher training.
