Allison J. Truitt is a Professor and Department Chair of Anthropology at Tulane University. She holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University and specializes in economic anthropology, globalization, and diasporic studies. Her research examines objects of value—such as money, gold, and motorbikes—to explore how they shape social identities and political economies across the Pacific. Key areas include Vietnamese Buddhism, transnational mobility, and material culture.
Publications include Pure Land in the Making (2021) and Dreaming of Money in Ho Chi Minh City (2013). Recent work focuses on gold's role in Vietnam's financial landscape. Teaching interests span economic anthropology, global cities, and Southeast Asian studies.
