Allison Creighton

Allison Creighton is a Lecturer in the McKelvey School of Engineering’s Communication Center at Washington University in St. Louis. She specializes in teaching Technical Writing, Communication Tools for Academic & Professional Success in Engineering, and Presentation Skills for Scientists and Engineers. With nearly three decades of teaching experience, she emphasizes collaborative learning, revision processes, and the recursive nature of writing and presentation development.

• Education: MFA in Creative Writing (University of Missouri–St. Louis), AB in English and Secondary Education (Washington University in St. Louis), and two undergraduate degrees in music.
• Professional Experience: Founded a technical editing service in 2006, focusing on medical and biotechnology materials, federal grant proposals, and scientific journal/conference submissions. Previously taught at Fontbonne University and St. Louis Community College – Forest Park, where she supervised the Supplemental Instruction Program.

Her research interests center on improving communication skills for STEM professionals, integrating peer feedback, and fostering revision as a core part of the creative process. She has also published poetry in journals and an anthology, with her first poetry book released in 2015.

Creighton’s work bridges academic and professional communication, leveraging her dual background in creative writing and technical editing to enhance student and professional communication outcomes.
