Allison Ashley-Koch is Professor in the Department of Medicine at Duke University. Her research employs multi-omics approaches to investigate genetic and epigenetic factors contributing to neurological disorders and sickle cell disease complications.
Primary research foci include:
- Genetic epidemiology of neural tube defects and PTSD
- Sickle cell disease modifiers and complications
- Epigenetic mechanisms in aging and disease
- Large-scale genomic studies (GWAS, WGS)
Recent work identifies de novo mutations in meningomyelocele, African ancestry-specific BMI variants, and epigenetic biomarkers of accelerated aging in sickle cell disease. Clinical translational research includes trials for sickle cell leg ulcers and proteomic analyses of disease complications.
She leads analyses in major consortia including the Million Veteran Program, applying advanced statistical genetics methods to identify disease mechanisms.
