Dr. Allan Hazlett is Professor of Philosophy at Washington University in St. Louis. He specializes in epistemology, metaethics, and the ethics of authenticity.
His scholarly work challenges the moral imperative of authenticity, arguing that inauthenticity can be socially beneficial and that authenticity-centric politics undermines democratic discourse.
Dr. Hazlett's books include A Luxury of the Understanding (2013), A Critical Introduction to Skepticism (2014), and The Epistemology of Desire and the Problem of Nihilism (2024). He directs the Civil Society Initiative to improve public discourse.
