Allan Garland, MD, MA is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba. He holds cross-appointments in Community Health Sciences and serves as an adjunct scientist at the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy. His research focuses on critical care outcomes, disparities in ICU care, sepsis epidemiology, and the long-term impacts of critical illness on patients' work capacity. He co-leads the Population Health pillar of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)-funded Canadian Sepsis Network.

Research interests include advance care planning, epidemiology of critical illness, statistical modeling methods, and variation in medical practice. His work addresses how acute health shocks affect working-age individuals and the bidirectional relationship between critical illness and chronic disorders.
Awards include the Chairman’s Award (2007) and Richard J. Blinkhorn Teaching Award (2005). From 2012-2021, he served as co-head of critical care medicine at the University of Manitoba.
