Allan Dreyer Hansen

Allan Dreyer Hansen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Sciences and Business at Roskilde University. His research focuses on political theory, populism, democracy, and political discourse. He holds an MSc in Political Science and a PhD. His work bridges critical theory, discourse analysis, and institutional studies.

Research interests include the conceptual history of populism, democratic theory, political identity formation, and the interplay between ideology and governance. He has published extensively on populism’s theoretical foundations, its historical manifestations, and its impact on contemporary political systems.

Notable projects include leading the initiative In the name of the people - Populism and the popular (2019–2023), exploring populism’s promises and threats to democracy. His recent articles analyze populism post-pandemic, historical social democratic populism, and discursive constructions of national identity post-terrorist attacks.

Media engagements include commentary on populism’s societal implications and local politics. He co-edited the journal Slagmark and participates actively in academic conferences and workshops.
