Allan B. Goldstein is a Senior Lecturer at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, Department of Technology, Culture and Society. He specializes in Disability Studies and Experiential Learning, focusing on bridging academic communities with people living with disabilities through collaborative projects. His research emphasizes inclusive education, assistive technology, and societal integration of marginalized groups.
Goldstein holds an MA in Disability Studies from the CUNY School of Professional Studies (2015). He is a recipient of prestigious awards including the NYU Distinguished Teaching Award (2018-2019) and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Faculty Award (2016-2017). His work has been featured in the Chronicle of Higher Education and WPIX's Changemaker series.
He leads the cross-school Disability Studies minor at NYU, co-creating courses like the award-winning Disability Studies program, which partners students with community members to produce digital stories and advocate for inclusion. As part of NYU’s Ability Project, he collaborates with nonprofits, businesses, and government entities to align community needs with university resources.
Goldstein’s publications include memoirs, essays, and academic articles exploring disability narratives, family caregiving, and global disability policies. His advocacy extends to film festivals, such as the Pace University Disability Film Festival, where he serves on the screening committee.
His teaching philosophy prioritizes experiential learning, emphasizing that 'we learn best about people by working with them.' This approach has inspired students to shift career paths, develop assistive technologies, and advocate for inclusive practices in their professions.
