Allan Albig is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Boise State University (BSU) since 2012. His research focuses on molecular and cell biology, particularly the non-canonical aspects of Notch signaling, extracellular matrix interactions, and angiogenesis. His lab explores how Notch proteins form signaling complexes (e.g., 'Notchosomes') and interact with integrins and ECM components.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Genetics and Cell Biology, Washington State University (2001)
- B.S. in Genetics and Cell Biology, University of Minnesota (1996)
Research Interests:
Dr. Albig’s work centers on Notch signaling pathways, their regulation by ECM and integrins, and roles in development and disease. Recent studies include dimerization dynamics of Notch intracellular domains, effects of resveratrol on signaling, and modulation by Src kinase.
Recent Publications: Focus on Notch heterodimer function, integrin crosstalk, and applications in angiogenesis research. Over 20 peer-reviewed articles since 2000, including studies on MAGP-2, fibulin proteins, and Notch signaling mechanisms.
Grants/Awards: No explicit awards listed, but involved in research infrastructure initiatives like the Center of Biomedical Research Excellence in Matrix Biology.
Advising: Mentored undergraduate researchers such as T.S. Roy and D.J. Becenti in projects related to angiogenesis and ECM proteins. Teaches graduate courses BMOL 601 (Biomolecules I) and BIOL 611 (Advanced Cell Biology).
Labs/Teams: Director of the Albig Laboratory, collaborating on projects funded by NIH and other agencies. Active in multidisciplinary matrix biology research networks.
