معرفی
Allan Adkin, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Brock University, within the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences. His research focuses on understanding the neural mechanisms underlying balance control, including interactions between emotional, cognitive, and sensory-motor systems. This work aims to develop strategies for assessing and managing balance deficits in older adults and individuals with musculoskeletal or neurological conditions.
Research interests include the effects of anxiety and fear on balance strategies, attention focus during balance tasks, and the impact of balance training on psychological outcomes. Dr. Adkin’s work has explored methodologies to evaluate discrepancies between perceived and actual balance capabilities, particularly in aging populations. He is professionally affiliated with the International Society for Posture and Gait Research (ISPGR).
Teaching responsibilities include courses such as Foundations of Motor Behaviour, Balance and Gait, and Neural Control of Posture, Balance, and Gait. His publications span interdisciplinary topics in biomechanics, neuroscience, and rehabilitation, with a focus on translating findings into clinical applications.
