Alla Baeva is an Associate Professor of Film and Television in the Division of Mass Communication at St. John’s University, part of the Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies. She is a practicing filmmaker, consultant, and educator with over 20 years of experience in film production, having contributed to 12 feature films and numerous short projects. Her research focuses on the philosophy of film, aesthetics, and technology, stemming from her PhD studies at the European Graduate School (Switzerland). Prof. Baeva has developed and led study abroad programs in media and film across Europe and Asia.
Her teaching spans courses such as Visual Aesthetics, Cinematic Philosophy, Motion Graphics, and International Cinema. She emphasizes hands-on production techniques, including digital cinematography and non-linear editing platforms like Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, and AVID. Her work bridges theoretical inquiry with practical filmmaking, reflecting her dual commitment to academic rigor and creative industry engagement.
Prof. Baeva has received international and American film festival awards for her work. Her academic contributions include advancing interdisciplinary approaches to media education and fostering global cultural exchange through her study abroad initiatives.
