Dr. Alka Rani Goyal is an Associate Professor at Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet) in the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing and Health Promotion. She serves as Head of Studies for Area of Responsibility 4 and is actively involved in two key research groups: Ageing, health and welfare, and Migration and minority health. Her academic work focuses on improving care practices and outcomes for vulnerable populations, particularly older adults with dementia and migrant communities.
Dr. Goyal's research interests center on several critical areas in healthcare:
- Dementia care and management, particularly focusing on anxiety and depression in dementia patients
- Nursing home care practices and transitions from home to institutional care
- Cross-cultural aspects of healthcare, especially for migrant populations and in international contexts like India
- Mental health issues among vulnerable populations including left-behind children of migrants
- Educational practices in nursing, particularly student retention and success
Through her extensive publication record spanning from 2018 to 2025, Dr. Goyal has established herself as a significant contributor to geriatric care research. Her work demonstrates a consistent focus on practical interventions to improve quality of life for dementia patients, examining both psychological aspects like anxiety and depression, as well as care delivery systems. She frequently employs mixed-methods approaches, including randomized controlled trials, scoping reviews, and qualitative interviews, often with an international comparative perspective.
Dr. Goyal actively disseminates her research through numerous conference presentations across Norway and internationally, engaging with both academic and clinical audiences to translate research findings into practice. Her work bridges the gap between academic research and clinical application in nursing and healthcare settings.
